I didn't do anything on Tuesday or Wednesday really. I flew over to see Saích in the morning, and then went home. I flew with Orythm a bit as well, but not much. I was worried about Saích. He wouldn't stop shivering, and only seemed warm when my wing was wrapped around him.
Wednesday night we flew to The Law. Merphis and Laestre were there, along with Alise, Aisher and Erdorn. George didn't turn up at all.
We talked over what we had said on Saturday night, and then went onto concealing the wings.
I did think, Why would anyone want to do that, but then part of it was ghost, so they would pass through anything.
'So we could use that when we go back to school?' asked Orythm.
'Yes. It is useful when you go through to the other world as well, if you don't want to be noticed,' Laestre was doing most of the talking tonight. Merphis was very quiet for a change.
'Where's Vechtir?' I asked. 'And George?'
'George is down south on holiday, visiting family,' Erdorn said. He rarely spoke.
'Vechtir is speaking to the council of flyers, trying to get some of them to come for a graduation in three weeks,' Merphis spoke now, breaking his silence.
'Whose graduation?' we were all curious, but Aisher was the only one to ask.
'Yours, if you're quick to learn.'
I was shocked. We'd only just got our wings, and already they were talking about graduation? 'Why so soon?' I had to ask.
'Something is happening, and we need all the flyers we can for it.'
We the novices shared a glance.
'What sort of thing?' this time it was Alise that asked.
'The sort of thing that will only be your business if you pass the test,' a new voice from behind us. Vechtir landed behind us.
'So they're going through?' Laestre stood up.
'Yeah. You're all in for an exam in two weeks. So get practising.'
We stood up then, and Merphis told us what to do. We started by ghosting our wings, and then hiding them from the eye, and then any combination of them. In this way we can hide what we are from others and were normal clothes and such like. It was hard to get. Then we went through aerial displays and practised every move we knew.
Finally, Vechtir called a stop. 'You've all done well today. On Saturday night, we'll go over the history and theory. You need to know this stuff perfectly if you are to pass the test.'
We flew back home, and I crashed until midday.
Saích seemed better today, when I called. We went out, up to the top of The Law. Just us two, no one else. Of course, there were other people up the top mainly tourists but no one we knew.
We walked in silence, down into the town. I was trying to remember all the theory of the flyers that I'd learnt.
'Are you Ok? You seem
quieter than usual,' he asked, drawing close and looking at me.
'Is that possible?' I asked. I was the quietest in our group.
'Yes
apparently so. This is a more subdued quiet. Can I do anything for you?'
'I have to learn all the theory and history of flyers in two weeks. Plus all the moves and displays.'
'Come back to mine, I have a ton of books on flyers,' he offered.
'Ok
thanks.'
So we went back to his. Walking in, I was aware of how quiet it was. 'Where is everybody?'
'Mum's at work, dad's on holiday somewhere and my sisters are out. Just us two in the house. Oh, and Freechor,' as a chinchilla ran out of a corridor and up his leg.
'Aww
he's so cute!' I exclaimed, drawing closer. He was a light grey colour, with a big bushy tail and black beady eyes.
Saích handed him to me, and disappeared somewhere. He reappeared pretty quickly, with a stack of books in his arms.
'Come on, through here,' he took me through into the sitting room and we sat down. Freechor scampered up my arm and curled up on my shoulder, resting on the part where my wing joined on. We researched all there was to be had on flyers, and found out so much. I took as many notes as I could, until his parents came in. I jumped.
'Hell, is that the time? Dammit, I was supposed to be home five minutes ago!' I grabbed my notes and shoved them in my pockets.
Out of the door, into the street. Getting ready to take off.
'Umm
Ifernia?'
'Yeah Saích?'
'I don't suppose I could get Freechor back, could I?'
'Oh,' he was still resting on my wing joint. 'I'd completely forgotten about him,' I scooped him up and handed him to Saích. 'Thanks for that,' on an impulse, I kissed his cheek and flipped backwards, and up into the sky.
I couldn't believe my audacity. I was pushing this friendship. Somehow probably thanks to very quick flying I got back in less than five minutes, so I wasn't too late. I landed in the back garden and pushed open the door. They were all sitting round the table, as mum served food.
'Sorry I'm late,' I said, closing the door. 'I was studying at Saích's.'
'We know. He phoned up just three minutes ago.'
I sat down, and we ate.

Also... That's an interesting plot point you introduced there :3 I hope she passes the graduation! "Ghosting" the wings is a good idea too, I'm sure something will come out of having such an ability ^^
